Sony introduces the Playstation Classic games console

PS Classic

Jumping on the proverbial bandwagon, Sony has just announced its contender for a classic re-release console with the PlayStation classic. As a result, I couldn’t feel more nostalgic right now! Not even a day after Nintendo released it’s NES library of games to the Switch, Sony has hit back with a nostalgic classic console. Check out the launch trailer below for awesome visuals.

Behold the shiny launch trailer:

First Impressions

As you can see from the launch trailer above, this classic controller captures the design of the Original model PlayStation 1 along with some much needed updates such as HDMI out, USB gaming controllers and a virtual memory card for game saves.

What’s more, the console is 45% smaller than the original console which makes it quite more compact and just darn cuter than the original.

Release Details

The console will be released on December 3rd and boasts 20 console defining games. Details aren’t too clear as of yet as to the full roster of games that will be included with the console. As of the time of writing this post, some of the games include: Tekken 3, Ridge Racer Type 4 and Final Fantasy VII, with more to be announced.

Nostalgia Level Overload

While I am very happy with the news of this new classic PlayStation, I am quite skeptical about the timing of this release as well as the library of games that could potentially be included on the console.

Plenty of PlayStation classics such as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro have been remastered for newer gen consoles with more on the way. So why now has the classic been announced? Is there enough of a novelty there for people to buy this console? These days, a lot of PS1 games can be played on the PlayStation Store or emulated.

Time will tell I am sure. With this in mind though, the NES and SNES classic consoles have sold pretty well with very high demand. So who knows, we may see the same thing here. Part of me wonders if Nintendo has something else up their sleeve. Like for instance that N64 classic we are all dreaming about!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I am extremely excited at the announcement of this classic console. I might just be asking Santa to put this in my Christmas stocking!
