5 games to play if you are new to PlayStation 4
The PlayStation 4
The PlayStation 4 is such an amazing console. It shows just how far we’ve come since the days of the original incarnation, the PlayStation 1. What’s more, to date it has sold more than 70 million units worldwide; quite the achievement.
If you are thinking about buying a PlayStation 4 or have just bought one, you are in for a treat! There are so many excellent titles available, with more to come in 2019, that you’ll have a hard time knowing where to begin.
With this in mind, I put together a list of 5 awesome games you should play if you are new to PlayStation 4. All of the games on this list are PlayStation exclusives which for me define this console. Just to stipulate though, the games on this list are only games that I own or have played. So with that in mind, you might have some different thoughts on what this list should look like.
Ratchet and Clank
Ratchet and Clank is one of the most iconic PlayStation mascot for many. Though I’m sure the same can be said for the rest of the games on this list.
The Ratchet and Clank series of games are action platformers that follow the story of 2 unlikely characters, Ratchet and Clank, as they battle their way through the star system and beyond.
Ratchet, a wrench wielding lombax, and clank, a defective robot with a heart of gold.. and bolts and stuff, had me and many others invested in their story right from the beginning.
For me, this was the first game I ever played on the PlayStation 2, continuing my love of gaming to a new console from my trusty old PlayStation 1.
This brings us nicely to the newest game in the series: the Ratchet and Clank remaster on the PlayStation 4. This game was released in 2016 and had fans very excited. This game takes the story and all of the elements from the first amazing game and rebuilds it from the ground up. Complete with stunning graphics, interesting characters and tons of collectibles and upgrades. The game ties in with the cinematic feature film which follows the same story line, also released in 2016.
This game was the reason I bought a PlayStation 4, so that should say something. What’s more, the Ratchet and Clank game is now part of the PlayStation Essentials collection which means you can pick it up for a steal pretty much anywhere.

Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn is an action role playing game that was released on the PlayStation 4 in 2017 to pretty great reviews.
This is probably the game I have played the least out of this list. However, that’s not to say that I haven’t enjoyed my time with Aloy, the outcast huntress who’s story I have become heavily invested in. Together, we have explored the vast landscapes and battled against the many mechanized creatures that inhabit the lands of this post apocalyptic world.
This game showcases without doubt the stunning graphics capabilities of the PlayStation 4. The world is so well designed; the grass flows and dances just like it does in real life, the snow makes imprints as Aloy strolls through it, the mechanical beasts.. OK are not real, but the way they look and the way they move almost makes me believe that they could be real.
I have not delved too far into the story line of this game as of the time of writing, so I cannot say how it will progress. What I do know is that this is a very unique plot with like-able characters and I cannot wait to know more about this story.

The Uncharted series debuted on the PlayStation 3 in 2007. It is an action adventure, third person shooter that follows the trials and tribulations of explorer and treasure hunter Nathan Drake.
Though I am relatively new to this series of games, I am definitely a fan after playing through the Uncharted Collection on the PlayStation 4 which includes the first 3 games. The Indiana Jones like story line (let’s face it) combined with the lush green jungle scenery and the interesting new characters of the first game had me hooked from the start.
Similar to Ratchet and Clank, The Uncharted Collection for the PlayStation 4 is also part of the PlayStation Essentials collection meaning it is pretty reasonably priced.

Marvel’s Spiderman was hotly contested for 2018’s game of the year in many circles and is definitely in my top 5 games of that year as well.
Swinging through New York city is nothing new to Spiderman games, but in this case each tiny detail of the city is perfectly created which makes the world come alive. Just standing still on any street corner and simply looking around will reveal a flurry of activity. From tiny squirrels going about their business to conversations happening between random individuals and a seemingly endless number of unique shop fronts, this city is so immersive.
What you don’t usually get from a Spiderman game is an original story. This game is different though, I came very near to tears watching the end of this game due to the impressive quality of the storytelling and the voice acting.
I would highly recommend this game to anyone with a PlaySation 4.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD Remix Collection
The Kingdom Hearts series of games is a great example of combining 2 unlikely things, in this case Final Fantasy and Disney, to create something special.
This series of games has captivated its loyal audience over the last number of years. Now, with the release of Kingdom Hearts 3 on January 29th 2019, everybody is trying their hand at these games.
The Kingdom Hearts series features a wide variety of characters, but the main protagonist you play as is Sora, who’s world is turned into darkness and destroyed by the Heartless. Gaining the power of the Keyblade to battle the heartless with, Sora is joined by Donald and Goofy on his adventures to all of the Disney worlds you could shake a stick at. OK so outside of game 1 and 2 and now 3 this story is a little different, but I’m not going to give you an overview of the whole in-depth story here, I wouldn’t do it justice.
The vast amount of games in this series might be enough to turn away potential new fans, but I would encourage anyone to buy the 1.5 2.5 HD Remix Edition for the PlayStation 4 as your entryway into the series.
