Destroy All Humans – I want a sequel / remake

There are so many great game remasters and continuations of long running game series being released for the PlayStation 4. What’s more the PlayStation 5 is just around the corner. Over the list couple of years alone, think about the great games that have been released. Titles like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot and Kingdom Hearts just for example. Talk about nostalgia!!

With all of this in mind, I thought it would be fun to ponder what games I would like to see either remastered or continued on the PlayStation 4 and beyond. One of the first games that came to my mind was Destroy All Humans.

Destroy All Humans

The Destroy All Humans series of games are pretty unique in terms of their idea. It is a different take on the common b-movie, alien invasion type games that you might see more commonly. In Destroy All Humans, you control an alien called Cryptosporidium (or Crypto as he’s more commonly known), who is a member of the furon alien race. Crypto’s goal is to harvest as much DNA as possible from the human race.

Games in the series

We follow Crypto and his boss / mentor Pox on their adventures through a number of games in the series including:

  • Destroy All Humans! – 2005, PS2 & Xbox
  • Destroy All Humans 2 – 2006, PS2 & Xbox
  • Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed – 2008, Wii
  • Destroy All Humans: Path of the Furon – 2009, PS3 & Xbox 360

What makes these games great

What I love about these series of games is the way they parody the culture and lifestyle of the time in which they are set. The first game is set in 1959 in the United States, which is an interesting time to say the least.

This game pokes fun at the politicians, people in power, celebrities, music and more by imagining what an outside perspective (in this case an alien) might make of them.

You might often imagine as a kid, or as an adult (hey not judging) what aliens would think of us if they were to come across us and our every day behavior.

In your first interactions with earth as you begin the first game, you can tell this is going to be interesting. You land on a farm and are perplexed and amazed at a group of cows grazing in a nearby field, cows! You approach the cows and of course, try to interact with them, but they are cows so not too adept at any languages. For me, this is such a great example of the fun and uniqueness of these games.

I want to see more

While I would always love to see a brand new game on the current gen consoles for this series, a faithful recreation of just the first 2 games would be an excellent result. Now I know the first 2 games are available on the PlayStation store. With that said, what would be excellent to see here is something similar to the approach developers took with the Spyro: Remastered Trilogy. Think of how amazing that would be.

What do you think?

Well, this is just my humble opinion, what do you think? Would you love to see a remake or remaster of this series of games? Let me know what you think!
