PlayStation Plus Games – April 2019
With the release of another set of games as part of the PlayStation Plus subscription it is time to take a look at what they are and how they rate.
My aim here is to give you a general overview of each game from a few different perspectives to see if you would enjoy playing them.
PlayStation Plus Games
This is the second month without PS3 & PS Vita games being included in the PlayStation Plus monthly offering. Due to this, fans are still trying to gauge the quality of monthly games following the change up.
With that being said, it seems like there are varying opinions on these games, ranging from meh to strong disappointment. It looks like it’s fair to say not many are in love with this month’s games.
Regardless, there are some good points to these games so it is worth trying them for yourself to see if you enjoy them.
April’s PlayStation Plus Games
The two games offered this month are:
- The Surge
- Conan Exiles
These 2 games are valued at €89.98 but free for you PlayStation Plus subscribers this month.
Release Date – May 2017
Developers – Deck13 Interactive (Lords of the Fallen, Venetica)
Publishers – Focus Home Interactive (Vampyr, Farming Simulator)
Price before PS Plus – €39.99
Genre – RPG Adventure
This game is set in a dystopian future where the advancement in robotics has caused mass unemployment for humans. You play as Warren, a character on your first day at work for CREO, a large tech corporation.
This game has been compared to the Souls series of games (Dark Souls, Demon Souls) developed by FromSoftware. This immediately indicates the challenging nature of the game to those familiar with these games. It may be appealing to gamers who enjoy the Souls games but haven’t yet bought Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
What’s more, it has been announced that a sequel is in the works in 2019. So great news if you enjoy this game!
Similar Games – The Souls series of games, Dark Souls, Demon Souls and most recently Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
Metacritic Score – 73/100 The Surge – Metacritic
- 47 trophies can be earned from this game excluding DLC
- Average Completion: 24%
- Platinum Achievers: 12.5%
- The Surge – PSN Profiles
Overall, The Surge seems like the more popular of the 2 games upon initial investigation.
It might be quite a challenging game but that is hardly a deterrent for avid gamers seeking out a tough and unforgiving experience.
Release Date – May 2018
Developers – Funcom (Age of Conan, Anarchy Online)
Publishers – Funcom and Koch Media
Price before PS Plus – €49.99
Genre – Survival, Adventure RPG
This is an open-world survival game that is set in the wastelands of Conan the Barbarian.
You play as an exile, starting from pretty much nothing and tasks with simply surviving the harsh environments that await you.
Similar Games – ARK: Survival Evolved, The Forest
Metacritic Score – 68/100 Conan Exiles – Metacritic
- 26 trophies can be earned from this game. There is no DLC
- Average Completion: 46%
- Platinum Achievers: 22.97%
- Conan Exiles – PSN Profiles
- Apparently this game can be platinumed in approx. 45 minutes according to the following forum post on PSN Profiles Platinum Walkthrough Trophy Guide
It seems as though Conan Exiles is the least popular of the two games from what I’ve seen on Reddit and Twitter.
Having said that it looks as though it is likely a quick win for trophy hunters.
So there you have it, a summary of the 2 games offered on PlayStation Plus this month. Hopefully you found this post useful and will try these games for yourself.
